Below are the Open Access online resources that are freely available in the internet, to provide additional sources of information for researchers. These are evaluated by the librarians to make sure reliable databases are being added to these lists.

 

Asean Digital Library The ASEAN Digital Library is a regional project to aggregate and connect the digitised resources of National Libraries in the ASEAN region so that these repositories can be accessed through a single search facility. ADL will be a boon to users and researchers. In addition, ADL provides global exposure and visibility of ASEAN content; and engages citizens of ASEAN nations in sharing and learning about their cultures and heritage; thus nurturing an appreciation of the ASEAN Identity. ADL is a project led by the National Library Board of Singapore, with support from the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (COCI).

 

Arxiv e-Print ArchiveThe arXiv e-Print Archive has been around since 1991 and is a well-known resource in the fields of mathematics and computer science. It is run by Cornell University Library and now offers open access to more than one million e-prints.

 

 

BASE Bielefeld Academic Search Engine   BASE is one of the world’s most voluminous search engines especially for academic web resources. BASE provides more than 100 million documents from more than 4,000 sources. You can access the full texts of about 60% of the indexed documents for free (Open Access). BASE is operated by Bielefeld University Library.

 

BCcampus  they are innovators and implementers, leaders and learners. Their primary focus is to support the post-secondary institutions of British Columbia as they adopt, adapt, and evolve their teaching and learning practices to create a better experience for students. 

 

 

 

 

Bookboon – Publishes free and openly available textbooks and eBooks which can be downloaded in PDF without registration.

 

 

 

CIA World Factbook  – is a little different from the other resources on this list in that it is not an online journal directory or repository. It is, however, a highly useful research database for academics in a variety of disciplines. All the information is free to access, and it provides facts about every country in the world, including information about history, geography, transportation, and much more.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cogprints –  An electronic archive for self-archive papers in any area of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Linguistics, and many areas of Computer Science (e.g., artificial intelligence, robotics, vison, learning, speech, neural networks), Philosophy (e.g., mind, language, knowledge, science, logic), Biology (e.g., ethology, behavioral ecology, sociobiology, behaviour genetics, evolutionary theory), Medicine (e.g., Psychiatry, Neurology, human genetics, Imaging), Anthropology (e.g., primatology, cognitive ethnology, archeology, paleontology), as well as any other portions of the physical, social and mathematical sciences that are pertinent to the study of cognition.

 

 

Core – CORE’s mission is to aggregate all open access research outputs from repositories and journals worldwide and make them available to the public. In this way CORE facilitates free unrestricted access to research for all.

 

 

dblp Computer Science Bibliography – is an online index of major computer science publications. Although it provides access to both free access articles and those behind a paywall, you can limit your search to only full-text articles. The site indexes more than three million publications, making it an invaluable resource in the world of computer science.

 

 

De Gruyter – Books (Multidisciplinary)  – De Gruyter publishes open access books across a total of 30 subject areas in science, technology, engineering and medicine (STEM), and humanities and social sciences (HSS). Today, we are proud to offer more than 2,000 book titles to read, download and share at De Gruyter’s Open Access Book Library.

 

 

De Gruyter – Journals (Multidisciplinary)  –  Publishes fully open access journals across STM and HSS. All articles undergo double blind peer-review and fast turnaround time from submission to online publication. All open access journals are indexed by the relevant Abstracting & Indexing services and the Directory of Open Access

 

 

 

 

Digital Library of The Commons –Run by Indiana University,  (DLC) Repository is a multidisciplinary journal repository that allows users to check thousands of  free and open access  articles from around the world. The DLC provides full-text articles, papers, and dissertations. This site contains an author-submission portal; an Image Database; the Comprehensive Bibliography of the Commons; a Keyword Thesaurus, and links to relevant reference sources on the study of the commons.

 

 

 

 

 

Digital Public Library of America – DPLA is aimed at giving universal access to digital resources of American libraries and archives.Among contributing institutions, there are New York Public Library, University of Michigan, Harvard University, and the Library of Congress.

The Bookshelf catalog includes over 1.6 million items. Perform a search, and from a book detail page, you’ll be redirected to a relevant website, where you can further read it online or download.

 

 

Digital Science Dimension  is a next-generation linked research information system that makes it easier to find and access the most relevant information, analyze the academic and broader outcomes of research, and gather insights to inform future strategy.

 

 

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOJ) – publishes free and openly available textbooks and eBooks which can be downloaded in PDF without registration.

 

 

Dryad – is a digital repository of curated, open access scientific research. It is run by a not-for-profit membership organization that aims to “promote a world where research data is openly available, integrated with the scholarly literature, and routinely reused to create knowledge.” It is free to access, but note that there is a publishing charge associated if you wish to publish your data in Dryad.

 

 

EconBiz – For students, researchers and teachers EconBiz offers orientation and help in the search for articles, working papers, e-books and more.  A service made by Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, it offers access to full texts online, with the option of searching for open access material only.

 

 ERICThe Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), of the Institution of Education Sciences, allows you to search by topic for material related to the field of education. Links lead to other sites, where you may have to purchase the information, but you can search for full-text articles only.

 

 

 

 

Europeana –   Europeana offers access to millions of digitized items from European museums, libraries, and archives.More than 2,000 European institutions across Europe contribute to the site, including the British Library and national libraries from many countries.

To find free public domain books, search for the author or title, and in the left-side panel narrow results by file type (“text”), and by copyright (“public domain marked”).

 

 

 

 E-Book Friendly Site that list down 25 public domain books. Every year, new publications enter public domainIt means their intellectual property rights have expired or are not applicable any longer.The content of these works becomes available for public use. Anyone is free to use or reuse it.

 

 

 

Free-Ebooks.net– is a great collection of fun, entertaining selections. Categories include a few non-fiction topics such as career and business, but the selection of fiction and easy reading is what is most impressive about this website. Formats include HTML, PDF, ePub and Mobipocket, offering a range of variability for most digital reading devices.

 

 

 

Freelipiniana– Curates published literary works volunteered by Filipino writers and publishers. With their help, this digital archive gives Filipinos free access to reading materials made by Filipinos for Filipinos. These include full-length books, like novels, poetry collections, and anthologies, and zines.

 

 

 

Globe eLibrary is both a web platform and mobile application that provides students and educators with free and quick access to digital storybooks and eLearning videos. It features age-appropriate and engaging educational resources tailored to children and young adults in the Philippines. Users can enjoy free access to hundreds of digital titles and video content through their mobile phones, tablet, laptop, and desktop computer.

 

 

IMF eLibrary – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) eLibrary delivers comprehensive online access to IMF information. The eLibrary contains over 12,000 publications that provide authoritative perspectives on topics ranging from macroeconomics and globalization to technical assistance and poverty reduction. The data eLibrary contains over 9,500 financial and economic data concepts containing more than one million statistical data.

 

 

Infoplease – It is a vast compilation of statistics and up-to-date facts and figures on a broad range of topics Subject: General Works; Reference.

 

 

Internet Archive – The Internet Archive is a 501(c)(3) non-profit library. Founded in 1996, our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge. We collect published works and make them available in digital formats. We are building a public library that can serve anyone in the world with access to the Internet. As our web archive grew, so did our commitment to providing digital versions of other published works. Today our archive contains: 279 billion web pages , 11 million books and texts, 4 million audio recordings (including 160,000 live concerts), 3 million videos (including 1 million Television News programs)1 million images 100,000 software programs

 

 

 

Jurnis a unique search tool, helping you to find free academic articles and books. JURN harnesses all the power of Google, but focusses your search through a hand-crafted and curated index. Established in 2009 to comprehensively cover the arts and humanities, in 2014 JURN expanded in scope. JURN now also covers selected university full-text repositories and many additional ejournals in science, biomedical, business and law. In 2015/6 JURN expanded again, adding over 600 ejournals on aspects of the natural world.

MERLOT – The MERLOT Community is made up of members from around the world, content experts who support and curate discipline content, academic teams that support institution-wide academic programs, and institutional partners. Project began in 1997, when the California State University Center for Distributed Learning (CSU-CDL at www.cdl.edu) developed and provided free access to MERLOT (www.merlot.org).

 

 

 

 

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations – (NDLTD) is an international organization dedicated to promoting the adoption, creation, use, dissemination, and preservation of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs). We support electronic publishing and open access to scholarship in order to enhance the sharing of knowledge worldwide. Our website includes resources for university administrators, librarians, faculty, students, and the general public. Topics include how to find, create, and preserve ETDs; how to set up an ETD program; legal and technical questions; and the latest news and research in the ETD community.

 

 

 

 

OasisOpenly Available Sources Integrated Search (OASIS) is a search tool that aims to make the discovery of open content easier. OASIS currently searches open content from 97 different sources and contains 385,629 records.

OASIS is being developed at SUNY Geneseo’s Milne Library.

 

 

 

OnlineSchools.org– provides some of the most reputable open-access journal websites, as well as paid subscription databases that are still widely used by traditional college students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Open Library – The site is a project of the Internet Archive and is intended to create “one web page for every book ever published”.There are over 1,000,000 free ebook titles available. Most of the titles are public domain, but you can also find here a growing lending library of over 200,000 contemporary ebooks.

If the book is available in digital form, a Read button is shown next to its catalog listing.

 

 

 

 

OpenDoar – the Directory of Open Access Repositories, is a comprehensive resource for finding open access journals and articles. Using Google Custom Search, OpenDOAR combs through open access repositories around the world and returns relevant research in all disciplines.

The repositories it searches through are assessed and categorized by OpenDOAR staff to ensure they meet quality standards.

 

Open Research Library – The Open Research Library (ORL) is planned to include all Open Access book content worldwide on one platform for user-friendly discovery, offering a seamless experience navigating more than 14,000 Open Access books. This vital infrastructure is slated to comprise the most comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed Open Access books accessible for everyone. Libraries investing in the Open Research Library contribute to the development of dedicated infrastructure for the global research community while participating libraries have the opportunity to benefit from a set of exclusive services.
 

Open Stax – OpenStax is part of Rice University, which is a nonprofit charitable corporation. As an educational initiative, it’s their mission to give every student the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. Through their partnerships with philanthropic foundations and alliance with other educational resource companies, we’re breaking down the most common barriers to learning. Because we believe that a well-educated society profits us all.

 

 

 

 

 

Open Text Library – are textbooks that have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost. All textbooks are either used at multiple higher education institutions; or affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization. The library currently includes 714 textbooks, with more being added all the time.

The Open Textbook Library is supported by the Center for Open Education and the Open Textbook Network.

 

 

 

 

Open University It is a free scholarly website dedicated to the Filipino students and teachers. It promotes proactive e-learning to students who are stay-at-home by providing them free access to scholastic resources such as references and journals for self-study. Open University is evolving from a free academic portal to Philippines’ first full–fledged search engine starting with its growing database of institutional sources.

What started as a humble school project has transformed into the country’s first free educational resources portal.

 

 

Paperity Open Science Aggregated is the first multi-disciplinary aggregator of Open Access journals and papers, “gold” and “hybrid”. It gives readers easy and unconstrained access to thousands of journals from hundreds of disciplines, in one central location; helps authors reach their target audience, disseminate discoveries more effectively and maximize research impact;

raises exposure of journals, boosts their readership and encourages new manuscript submissions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

PLARIDEL: A Philippine Journal of Communication, Media and Society  – Plaridel: A Philippine Journal of Communication, Media and Society was first published in 2004 as a national journal of communication and has been released on a regular bi-annual basis since. It has since evolved to a more inclusive regional focus and has recently begun publishing papers from other Asian countries. Papers published in Plaridel Journal include original research in different areas of media and communication studies in the Philippines and Asia. These can be qualitative or quantitative work in media effects, industry, political economy, subcultural practices, and journalism studies, among others.

 

 

 

Public Library of Science  –  (PLOS) is a big player in the world of open access science. Publishing seven open access journals, the nonprofit organization is committed to facilitating openness in academic research. According to the site, “all PLOS content is at the highest possible level of open access, meaning that scientific articles are immediately and freely available to anyone, anywhere.”

 

 

 

Project Guttenburgis probably the most well recognized website for free eBooks and provides books for the Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, iPhone, iPod Touch and other cell phone formats as well. These titles are free because their copyrights have expired, which means many of the titles will be fairly old. But a good classic is often hard to beat, so don’t skip this selection in your search for the best read of the year. With over 20,000 works it might be difficult to decide where to begin, but you can view the list of the top 100 to get started.

Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is a collection of papers from the social sciences community. The site offers more than 700,000 abstracts and more than 600,000 full-text papers.There is not yet a specific option to search for only full-text articles, but because most of the papers on the site are free access, it is not often that you encounter a paywall. You must become a member to use the services, but registration is free and enables you to interact with other scholars around the world.

 

 

 

 

SpringerOpen Books – The growing demand for open access publishing across all disciplines has led Springer to expand our open access program to fully open access books. As a further addition to our already established SpringerOpen journal portfolio we now offer authors in a wide range of areas within science, technology and medicine (STM) the option to publish open access books.

 

 

SpringerOpen –  SpringerOpen journals and books are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication. They are subject to high-level peer review, author and production services ensuring quality and reliability of the work. Authors publishing with SpringerOpen retain the copyright to their work, licensing it under a Creative Commons license. To cover the cost of the publication process, all SpringerOpen journals and books charge an open access fee. To support the individual researchers in covering these costs, institutions can join our Open Access Membership Program which we offer together with BioMed Central. We currently have over 400 members in more than 45 countries.

 

 

SwePub – SwePub makes it possible to search among articles, conference papers, dissertations etc. published at Swedish universities and authorities. Use SwePub for an overview of what is published in your research area, to get titles in full text, abstracts and citations.
