Cebu Normal University’s (CNU) – Learning Resource Center (LRC) officially inaugurated the first day of the Campus Book Fair yesterday, March 21, 2023, at Tandang Sora Hall.
In her welcome remarks, CNU-LRC’s head librarian Ms. Mary Jhoanne T. De La Cruz described the book fair as a “dream come true.”
“In this 21st century, book fairs dispel the idea that physical books will cease to exist…Printed books are here to stay and our library needs to acquire the latest publications of printed reference books in support with [of] the curricular research and academic needs of our students and faculty,” she shared.
Afterward, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Office of the University President Dr. Filomena T. Dayagbil delivered her inspirational message.
“The LRC is a symbol of CNU’s commitment to ensure that our students, our faculty will be given a space wherein they would learn, and they would interact…because in the library we thought that we just actually…read books but actually it is a source of a learning hub, a space for us to fret the source of innovation,” she stated.
Dayagbil concluded that a book is a gift to the faculty and students and the best gift that can be opened repeatedly.
Ms. Charlene R. Principe, CNU-LRC’s reference librarian, discussed the rationale of the event and introduced the participating book exhibitors.
The anticipated ribbon-cutting ceremony, spearheaded by the university librarians, officials, and faculty, followed thereafter.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Center for Research and Development Dr. Daisy R. Palompon expressed in her closing remarks that the event can enhance the book resources for all the faculty members and students.
“With this, the book fair indeed makes our university more responsive and relevant in the learning milestones of our learners,” she added.
The book exhibitors included Belview Co., Inc., CD Books International, Inc., C&E Publishing, Inc., Fastbook Educational Supply, Inc., F&J de Jesus, Inc., Forefront Book Co. Inc., Linar International Book Resources Inc., MegaTexts Phil., Inc., Serv Enterprises, and Super Pages Trading.
The three-day-long campus book fair serves as a celebration of knowledge and innovation that will end on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
